![]() My enduring image of Chuck Hayes is watching him weep during the national anthem on his senior night. While Hayes’ numbers don’t jump out at you, his hard work and dedication are what put him on this list, as well as his longevity. He played alongside DeMarcus Cousins for the 2011-2012 season.Ĭhuck Hayes is 40th on the all time scoring list he is seventh on the all time rebounds list he is 13th on the all time blocks list he is 36th on the all time field goals list and 54th on the all time field goal percentage list. He went into the NBA and played for the Houston Rockets from 2005-2011, when he was picked up by the Sacramento Kings. At the end of the season, Hayes was named as a First Team All SEC Player and was named to the All NCAA Regional Team. Hayes scored 16 points and added five rebounds in that game. The team again stalled in the tournament, losing to Michigan State in the Elite Eight 94-88 in overtime. That team went 26-8, with a legendary win against Louisville that season. Hayes was third on the team in scoring average with a career best 10.91 points per game. These new freshmen comprised Tubby’s most talented recruiting class. He came back for his senior season in 2004-2004 to an entire new batch of Wildcats that included Rajon Rondo, Randolph Morris, Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford. He finished the year All SEC Second Team and on the All SEC Tournament team. Hayes only had six points in the contest. They lost in the second round to Alabama Birmingham 76-75. Kentucky was the #2 team in the country at the time and had won 10 in a row. ![]() But, another disappointing tournament appearance awaited. Hayes bumped his average scoring up to 10.69 points per game with a season high 23 points coming against Florida in the SEC championship title game, which the ‘Cats won. Kentucky went 27-5 on another very talented team. Hayes followed that season with one of his best in 2003-2004. That season Hayes averaged a little over eight points a game. ![]() That was the season that Kentucky lost to Dwayne Wade and Marquette in the Elite Eight due to an injured Keith Bogans. Hayes’ sophomore year, he was a part of the best team that he would play on at Kentucky.
